Vintage 1930's SILK TAFFETA romantic floral dress gown with ruffles size XS-S
This 1930's gown takes a page from history for some romantic details.. When this gown first arrived at the studio it was flat as a pancake! (And in desperate need of some TLC). Now, this circa late 1930's full length dress (or gown) is ready to party. She's made from a medium weight, swishy silk taffeta (with a soft hand and light sheen) in a deep peach-to-salmon toned pink color. The print is (I believe) meant to imitate a chiné or warp-printed style fabrics, popular in the late 18th century, and features a simple floral cluster pattern in blues and red weird! The silhouette of this dress also harkens back to a Regency-esque style with a high-cut Basque or Princess style waistline and puffed shoulders.
All along the neckline and hem we have a Rococo-inspired ruffle trim (perhaps intended to be flat, but I liked the ruffle with more life, and you may always iron the ruffles flat, if preferred). And lastly, a self-fabric sash tie is at the waist, as well as a metal side zipper for closure.
This dress is in overall good condition, and is wearable with some care (and for the right size wearer). There are repaired holes in the cuffs and a couple spots in the skirt. Some seams around the waist and underarms have been reinforced, as these receive the most stress when worn -please see measurements below and/or inquire for more. There is some mild sun damage (color fade or lightening) throughout the skirt, specifically at the sides, as well as some light brown spotting/stains throughout skirt. The craftsmanship of this dress is fine enough that I believe it was shop or boutique-made, however no labels or maker's marks are present.
